Hello flower lovers! Anggie Fitriana here, from Loys Bloom Boutique, your favorite Canggu florist. There's nothing quite like the joy of receiving or bringing home a stunning bouquet of fresh flowers. Their beauty and fragrance can instantly lift spirits and brighten any space. But in our warm Balinese climate, giving your blooms a little extra TLC can make all the difference in how long they stay radiant.
As a passionate "florist near me," I want you to enjoy your Bali flowers for as long as possible. Here are my go-to care tips, tried and tested in our tropical paradise:
Anggie's Secrets to Long-Lasting Bali Blooms:
-
The Golden Hour: Hydrate Immediately! The moment your flowers arrive from our flower shop (or any florist!), they're thirsty.
- Trim the Stems: Using sharp scissors or a floral knife, trim about 1-2 cm (1/2 to 1 inch) off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. Do this under water if possible to prevent air bubbles from blocking water uptake.
- Fresh Water Pronto: Place them immediately into a clean vase filled with fresh, cool water.
-
Water Wisely: Quality & Quantity
- Change Water Daily (or Every Other Day): This is crucial in the tropics to prevent bacterial growth, which clogs stems and shortens flower life.
- Use Flower Food (If Provided): The packets from your florist contain sugar for energy and an antimicrobial agent. If you don't have one, a tiny drop of bleach or a crushed aspirin can help keep bacteria at bay (use sparingly!).
- Ensure Stems are Submerged: But remove any leaves that fall below the waterline, as they'll rot and contaminate the water.
-
Location, Location, Location! Where you place your vase of fresh flowers matters immensely in Bali:
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: While Bali is sunny, direct rays will scorch and dehydrate your delicate blooms. Bright, indirect light is best.
- Steer Clear of Heat Sources: Keep them away from lamps, electronics, or sunny windowsills.
- No Ripening Fruit Nearby: Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which speeds up the aging process of flowers. Keep your fruit bowl separate!
- Avoid Drafts (Sometimes): While good air circulation is generally okay, strong drafts from fans or AC units can sometimes dehydrate flowers more quickly.
-
A Little Mist (For Some Tropicals) Certain tropical Bali flowers and foliage (like orchids or anthuriums, if not in a delicate arrangement) can benefit from a light misting of water on their petals and leaves, especially if your indoor air is dry from air conditioning. However, avoid misting delicate roses or fuzzy-leaved flowers.
-
Re-Trim for a Refresh Every couple of days, when you change the water, give the stems another fresh diagonal cut. This reopens the pathways for water absorption.
A Note from Your Canggu Florist: At Loys Bloom Boutique, we pride ourselves on sourcing the freshest, highest-quality fresh flowers. We condition them carefully before they even reach you. These care tips are to help you extend that beauty in your own Bali home or villa.
Caring for your flowers can be a lovely little ritual. By following these simple steps, you can enjoy the vibrant life of your bouquets from Loys Bloom Boutique for days to come. If you ever have specific questions about caring for a particular type of Bali flower, don't hesitate to ask us at our flower shop!
